Did You Know? There’s a Place on Earth Where It Has Never Rained

In one of the driest places on the planet, the Atacama Desert, there are regions where no rainfall has ever been recorded in human history. Some weather stations in this desert have gone decades — even centuries — without detecting a single drop of rain.

This extreme dryness happens because of a unique combination of geographical factors. The desert is trapped between mountains and influenced by cold ocean currents, which prevent clouds from forming and releasing rain.

What makes it even more fascinating is that scientists use this environment to study Mars. The soil and conditions are so similar that NASA has tested rovers there to prepare for space missions.

Despite its harsh conditions, life still exists in the Atacama. Special microorganisms have adapted to survive with almost no water, making it one of the most extreme yet intriguing places on Earth.
